I really don't understand why Apple is not supporting iDVD any longer. I didn't realize that Apple had made some the decision they did regarding iDVD and that iMovie would be changed so much. Thats why we have older Macs frozen to OS 10.9.5 for running iMovie HD 06. I do have a new version of iMovie, which I don't like. Is there anything I need to do before I try to install iDVD? Would it be wise to install it on an external hard drive? Your post to Gary seemed a little advanced for me. I recently read a post that I could purchase the iLife 09 and install iDVD (I like the older version of iMovie as well, the new version doesn't allow you to put chapter markers into your movies), but now I am afraid to try it. I lost all of my applications, iMovie, iDVD, Photoshop, etc. To make a long story short, I didn't realize that they would have to do this, and my husband didn't bring up that possibility, so I just copied my really important items (photos, genealogy info, docs, etc.) to an external hard drive. Recently, my computer started crashing frequently and the Apple store wiped my hard drive clean and updated my operating system to Yosemite. I am not an expert by any definition, but I have been using iMovie and iDVD to make dance performance DVDs for a school dance team for several years now. I have a similar situation regarding iDVD. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums. Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.
If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good. To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process. Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.
